The Buena Vista Historical Society is an organization
of volunteers dedicated to the preservation of the county’s
physical heritage. This delightful museum, housed in a 1916
building constructed for the assembly and sale of Ford automobiles,
has a permanent “Pioneer Main Street” display. Model
storefronts and from the 1800s present a window into early prairie
life. The remaining museum changes displays each year, and past
displays have included early automobiles, fashions, and circus
memorabilia.
The BV Historical Society also owns and operates
the Pioneer Heritage Center. This outdoor education center includes
a furnished two-story log house built around 1871, and the Elk
Township Country School, a perfect example of early one-room
school houses.
