The fine arts find a home in Storm Lake at
the Witter Gallery, connected to the Storm Lake Public Library.
Ella Witter, daughter of one of Storm Lake’s founding
fathers, donated the facility to the city in 1972. Ella graduated
from Storm Lake High School and studied art at the Chicago Art
Institute, with Hans Hoffman in Munich, and with Diego Rivera
in Mexico City. Several of Witter’s pieces are in the
gallery’s permanent collection.
Each year, the gallery displays several exhibits
with a wide array of media to foster an appreciation for visual
arts. The gallery is open free to the public year-round, and
it offers educational opportunities for citizens of all ages
through lectures, demonstrations and workshops.
